A unique vacation experience, offering relaxation
balanced with learning adventures in the Rocky Mountains.
Catering to independent & solo travelers or small groups.
First Class Flyfishing Trip:
Stay at an Orvis certified Private Lodge. Long days filled with fresh air, and nights spent in front of the fireplace discussing the day's catch. Private guides every day on miles of private waters (the long-time guides will be there to welcome you back each year). Shop talk about the latest rods, breathable waders, and more. You can "test fish" any of the Orvis rods. Try wading to broad riffles and deep pools of the gold medal Colorado river and tributaries, or short, acute casting on fast-moving Troublesome Creek. In 2007, new, improved and more exciting waters
to fish were added. Catch-and-release policy protects the large populations and large fish, up to ten pounds. Instruction from beginning casting to advanced moving-water technique. Although their is a fully stocked shop on the premises, we can send you a list of recommended items to bring.
Rocky Mt. Gormet Dining
While breakfast provides the day's fuel, and lunch a chance to relax on the stream, dinner is the shining crown of Elktrout cuisine. What better way to end a day on the water than with good food and company. During the summer, we return to the lodge in late afternoon for an early dinner at 5:30pm. This permits you to catch the evening hatch after one of Chef Bobby Holtzman's superb meals. At Elktrout you'll enjoy your meals in the authentic setting of a turn-of-the-century dining tent with real crystal chandeliers.
Dinners often begin with delicious soups like Manhattan clam chowder, broccoli or tomato basil. Some nights we start with a spinach or caesar salad coated with our fresh house dressings. But soups and salads are only the beginning of the feast. Slow roasted prime rib, Hawaiian style pork tenderloin, ruby red trout, Chilean sea bass or lamb chops are equally likely to find their way on to the table. And every meal is blessed with fresh bread from our own kitchen.
Homemade ice cream, sorbets, crème brule, blackberry cream cheese frosted white cake - need we say more?

By Ron, Dallas, Texas: "Everything at ElkTrout clicks, all of the staff from the moment you check in makes you feel completely comfortable and welcome to be at their facility. Our guide, Paul Reese was a real pleasure to fish with, he knew the water and was patient with his teaching."
