We assist you in first defining what your objective is. Students receive instructions, do writing exercises in and out of class, and go home with an outline of how to continue either thier self-help journaling or their life stories that they began at the workshop. (See more below, "Workshop Outline"). This may consist of writing a story about someone's life, or learning to use daily journaling for self-healing and self-discovery.
What is the difference between memoirs and biographies?
Memoirs are memories of events and/or feelings in our life. Biographies are actual events, which may involve doing research, interviews, and collecting objects and photographs. It's is similar to the concepts of dreaming vs. reality. Dreaming is based on reality, but is an interpretation of it.
What is the difference between a diary and journaling?
The power of journaling is accessible to anyone who desires self-directed change... Neither one requires special writing skills, only a willingness to express honestly the joys, despairs and spiritual discoveries of life. A diary is usually a day-to-day record of what happens in your life. A journal, while also written in present tense, takes your story one step further, and enables you to become reflective. You are not restricted to your own life story, but can include dreams, nature or observations. Journaling guides you into interpreting your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health and wellness.
We can guide you on how to interpret your journaling, organize your biographical material, and/or inspire and direct your recollection of memoirs. This can be done as a private writing session (more intense learning), or combined with a Wellness Retreat (more casual and experimental). Learn how to not just "transcribe" the story, but "translate" it.

"Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. NOTICE! The dates below are for 2010. New dates will be put up here in late spring. In 2011, a new format will be tried out. The various journaling workshops will not be offered as often, but rather once or twice a year. There will be room for slightly larger groups (eg, five to ten people). Prices will be adjusted to match the new format. We will always offer reasonable prices, complete packages, and personalized service! Write us if you have immediate questions.

Find out what's been keeping you back. Uncover hidden motivations. Discover your true thoughts and aspirations. Or, bring a problem with you that you wish to resolve. You will receive instructions for in-class exercises, as well as receive guidance on how to carry on this work once you return home. Many of our students bring with them a problem they have been trying to figure out (eg, how they can get over hating their son's wife); and we spend significant time on analyzing it, and working toward a positive outcome. We find that people often feel a "calling" to do the workshop for a problem they have buried and think they have resolved. Listen to your intuition, and see if this is right for you. (If you want to write a biography or memoir, see comments below and on our Creative Writing page)
VISUAL JOURNALING
"Mother's Day" Special Event May 7 to 10; July 9 to 12, 2010.
Using art to help bring out "your story."

What You Will Learn ...Your Choices ...
at the Journaling Workshop

We begin on the first day with the basics. The Journaling Process By going over the "basics" of journaling, you will always have a place to start. If you have a "block", you can refer to these guidelines. Then, once your pen starts rolling, your creativity will kick in.
If you still are having problems, it may not be what we traditionally think of as "writer's block". It might be your inner self trying either block a bad memory or trying to get you to face something. If you start to write about one thing, but something else keeps popping up, stop, and write about that other thing now! And, continue writing about it until you completely run out of things to say about it. Take a good 20 minutes. You will be amazed at the results. Write next in your journal what you concluded from reviewing the written material, and what you will do about it.
Take Your Biography Chapter by Chapter
Some of our students come to us because they feel they have a book they must write; a story about themselves or someone else that they want to share with their larger family or the world. They bring material based on life stories of a courageous family member, or a family history they want to record in an entertaining, but accurate way. For these students, we will guide them in chapter outlines and content; and, how to develop characters. Karl Jung established the first criteria for "archetype" characters: what all stories contain. EG: matriarch, hero, etc. If this is your area of interest, please check out our description of the Creative Writing Workshop page.
Individualized Guidance
Bring material of your own area of interest, and get advice on how to piece it together into a coherent, memorable article or series of journaling exercises.
